This bungalow is set up right in the middle of an apple orchard perfect for that Do-Nothing Vacation
There are large lounging and living areas and a sun-room for that picture perfect afternoon.
The bungalow is a mix of tradition and modernity with mud and stone walls made over 65 years ago
The bungalow sits bang in the middle of an apple orchard. It is far from the madding crowd of Himachal’s hill towns (85kms from Shimla ). It is suitable for those looking for seclusion, tranquility, nature and space (both indoors and outdoors) and the surreal experience of living in an apple orchard.
The bungalow has two inner rooms with attached bathrooms. Encircling them are large lounging and living areas with single beds and settees to attommodate more people. The bungalow is great for family get togethers, reunions, parties etc. There is a sun-room with skylights adjoining the kitchen. One can bask in the sun here throughout the day. Extra mattresses can be provided and if one so wishes one can also sleep in the sunroom.
The sunroom also has a fireplace.
Because it is in the middle of an orchard, one has to walk about 150 meters through the apple orchard to reach it from the road.
The Apple Orchard House is also suitable for bird-watching (or bird photography). The property also has a telescope and can be put to good use scanning the clear night skies.
The guests get the entire Bungalow to themselves.
Interaction with Guests
There will be a cook/ caretaker and other orderlies on the property to take care of the guests. I will be available on the phone at all times.
The bungalow is in Ratnari village – a famous apple belt in Himachal -where the locals engage in intensive apple farming. Its a prosperous but closed society therefore respecting local sentiments would be appreciated.
The village market is a kilometre away and has few provision stores stocking the usual daily needs items. The closest big town is Narkanda, 17kms away.
If you are a good trekker you can trek upto the famous Hatu Peak ( 4km trek one way.) Alternatively one can go on small treks to the adjoining forest five minutes walk away.
One has to first reach Shimla. For Shimla, one can take the Shatabdi Train to Kalka from New Delhi. Then a connecting Toy train from Kalka to Shimla. Volvo bus service from New Delhi is also another good option.
New low cost New Delhi -Shimla flights were introduced recently. Kindly check with your travel agent for details.
From Shimla the bungalow is 85kms by road. One should come via Narkanda. From Narkanda the bungalow is only 17kms. There is a 10km jungle stretch so preferably one should come in a SUV.

It has always been thought that luxury is incompatible with sustainability. Our experience has been quite the opposite. Our sustainable practises has in fact added immensely to luxury.
1) Harvesting / Recycling : Water self-sufficiency.
Eco-resorts recommend low-flow showers and bucket baths. But we harvest rain- water. With recycling in place, the more water you use, the better it is for the recycling system. Both our bathrooms not only have high-flow shower heads but also bath tubs. Besides the tubs both bathrooms have separate shower areas.
The outer walls of the house and the room ceilings are insulated with XPS insulant. This provides insulation both against weather and sound.
3) Solar Energy:
We use solar energy to power our geysers. But for cloudy days we also have electric geysers.
4) Furniture from Waste Wood:
The furniture, from the beds to the lamp-shades have all been designed in-house using 'waste' wood. This is the discarded wood picked up from the wood-mills. We used this wood to design almost everything you see in the house.
Design & Architecture:
The resort is confusion of tradition and modernity. Its inner mud and stone walls are over 65 years old. The bathrooms and the sunroom and the porch are the new additions in the old house. The outer frame of the house, the floor, the ceiling are all wooden.
The bathrooms have a heating option for winters. (Kindly take the assistance of the caretaker to use any electrical systems in the house)
Meena Bagh Properties are plastic-free zones. Kindly help us keep them that way. Please do not bring plastic bags or bottles into the compound.
We do no offer plastic packaged bottled water. We have a RO system installed in the house.
Kindly do not venture into the orchard without supervision or light any fire in the orchard or compound.
Kindly bring back your trash if you go picnicking or trekking.
No loud noise; honking or music, which may disturb the locals will be appreciated.
Ratnari is a prosperous but closed society. Therefore Kindly do not intrude in their lives in anyway (taking photos of locals for example)
